The Students of Marysville K-8 Need Your Help!

On Tuesday morning around lunchtime, the fire alarm sounded and black smoke began to spread through the Marysville K-8 School in southeast Portland, Oregon.

Students, teachers and staff rushed to safety leaving everything, even half-eaten student lunches behind.

All 435 students and 19 teachers were evacuated safely, but their belongings, including purses, books, backpacks, school supplies and more were swallowed by the flames.

Firefighters worked for over four hours putting out the flames and as of Wednesday, the building was still to unsafe for investigators to enter to determine the cause of the fire.  As investigators begin their work, plans are already in motion to relocate the students to the nearby closed Rose City Park Elementary School building for the next few months of the school year.

More than 25 custodians and other staffers got to work Wednesday cleaning the Rose City Park building in preparation for school to resume on Monday morning for these students, over 80% of which receive free or reduced lunches.

A donation and supply drive has been set up through Schoolhouse Supplies, a Portland area non-profit that provides school supplies to students throughout the Portland Public School District.

Will you help the students and staff of Marysville K-8 rebuild?  From now through November 13th, 10% of the proceeds from your purchase at Ready Set Go Kits will go to help these schoolchildren get the supplies they need.

If you needed a motivator to purchase your 72 hour kits, let this be it.

A giant "Thank You" for your generosity in helping these students pick up the pieces from us at Ready Set Go Kits.
